And, once the car is sold, proper paperwork (transfer of RC, insurance, etc)  is very critical for complete peace of mind.

The following table helps you complete the sale process and documentation smoothly whether you are selling to a dealer or an individual.

Buyer authenticity check Identity proof: PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Aadhar Card, etc.Address proof*: Passport, Electricity Bill, Bank Statement, Telephone bill, etc.*Address proof is an essential document in case of an individual. Without valid address proof the vehicle can’t be transferred to the buyer’s name. In case the permanent & temporary address are different, ensure buyer provides address proof for both. Identity proof*: Company I-Card, PAN Card, Passport, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Aadhar Card, etc.Address proof: Electricity Bill, Bank Statement, Telephone bill, VAT, Service tax registration, etc.*In case of a dealership, ask for I-Card of the executive who is dealing with you.
RTO Transfer & Paperwork   As for the address at which the buyer is going to transfer the vehicleIt is best to keep the transfer of RC in your control and get the transfer done yourself.In case paperwork is done by the buyer, fill up the requisite RTO documents yourself. Ensure you keep records of all paperwork, including sale agreement and delivery note. This will come handy in case you face any issues.Follow-up with the buyer for copy of transferred RC. If the RC is not transferred in 90 days, send an intimation letter to your RTO informing about the sale of the car. Dealers typically sell the vehicle to an end user or another car dealer, ensure dealer gives you a proper delivery note, duly signed and stamped by authorized signatory. Ensure you keep records of all paperwork, including sale agreement and delivery note. This will come handy in case you face any issues. Follow-up with the dealer for copy of transferred RC. If the RC is not transferred in 90 days, send an intimation letter to your RTO informing about the sale of the car.
